Michael Ironheart, un telepate amico di Talia Winters, arriva su Babylon 5 inseguito da Bester, del Corpo Psi. Nel frattempo, Catherine Sakai si vuole recare su un pianeta promettente per lo sfruttamento minerario, ma G'Kar la ammonisce di non farlo.

- Secondo Ironheart, il Corpo Psi sta diventando sempre più potente, e sta iniziando a prendere il controllo, utilizzando anche tecniche ricattatorie.
- Ironheart è stato l'istruttore e l'amante di Talia Winters durante il periodo dell'addestramento nel Corpo Psi.
- Appena prima della sua partenza da Babylon 5, Ironheart fa un dono a Talia, rendendola (non si sa in quale misura) capace di usare la telecinesi.

- Cosa intende Ironheart quando dice che il Corpo Psi sta cambiando, che i telepati stanno diventando più potenti di quanto si immagini? Quanto potenti?
- Ironheart dice la verità oppure gli esperimenti a cui è stato sottoposto ne hanno minato del tutto le capacità mentali?
- C'è qualcosa dietro alle parole finali di Ironheart a Sinclair ("Arrivederci, comandante. La vedrò ancora, tra un milione di anni") oppure è solo un saluto un po' strano?
- Sinclair costringe Bester a non fare menzione nel suo rapporto di cosa sia successo ad Ironheart e dell'aiuto che questi ha ricevuto da Talia Winters. Ma, in via non ufficiale, Bester può sempre raccontarlo ai suoi superiori. Bester dirà qualcosa ai suoi capi su quanto è realmente accaduto? Ci saranno conseguenze per Talia?
- Cosa intende dire G'Kar quando sostiene che nessuno su Babylon 5 è esattamente quello che appare?
- Il dono di Ironheart a Talia Winters è solo quello della telecinesi o c'è dell'altro?

- Jason Ironheart, ex istruttore ed amante di Talia Winters, è entrato a far parte, come volontario, di un programma sperimentale del Corpo Psi, poi rivelatosi di successo oltre ogni aspettativa, che aveva come scopo quello di potenziare le capacità telepatiche naturali di un Terrestre e sviluppare le potenzialità telecinetiche. Ironheart ha in seguito scoperto che l'esperimento aveva come vero obiettivo lo sfruttamento di telepati potenziati artificialmente come veri e propri assassini perfetti e/o per applicazioni militari, ed ha deciso di uccidere il capo dei ricercatori (l'unico in grado di ripetere il processo) e di fuggire su Babylon 5.
- Susan Ivanova e Talia Winters non hanno iniziato col piede giusto il loro rapporto (Midnight on the Firing Line), ma dopo la scansione telepatica dei due Psi Cop è proprio Ivanova ad offrire alla Winters un bicchiere d'acqua.
- Il nome del materiale citato nell'episodio, il Quantium-40, è stato scelto basandosi sui suggerimenti dei frequentatori della BBS americana GEnie, così come il nome della compagnia Universal Terraform, suggerito da un SysOp della stessa BBS.
- Il Quantium-40 è un materiale essenziale per la costruzione dei jumpgate. Nel 2258 l'Alleanza Terrestre ne possiede solo scarse riserve.
- Alla fine del corso di addestramento, ogni telepate è sottoposto ad un test per verificare l'esistenza di capacità telecinetiche.
- Ponete attenzione a Black Omega, un nome che tornerà in episodi futuri.
- I misteriosi esseri che transitano da Sigma 957 paiono sfruttare propri jumpgate e non quelli fissi normalmente utilizzati dalle altre specie viste sino ad ora.
- Solo lo 0,1% degli Umani ha capacità psichiche, di questi solo lo 0,01% ha capacità telecinetiche, e metà di chi le ha non è sano di mente.
- La frase di G'Kar "No one here is exactly what he appears" assumerà ancora maggiore importanza negli episodi seguenti, in cui per tutti i personaggi citati dal Narn (e non solo) l'affermazione si rivelerà essere vera.
- Il gesto con cui Bester saluta Sinclair nel finale dell'episodio è un omaggio alla serie The Prisoner, della quale J. Michael Straczynski è un appassionato.
- Il nome del personaggio interpretato da Walter Koenig è un riferimento allo scrittore Alfred Bester, che narrò di telepati nel suo libro The Demolished Man.
- Ci sono molti collegamenti possibili tra gli Psi Cop e la Gestapo del periodo nazista.
- Le regole del Corpo Psi impongono ai telepati terrestri molte restrizioni, che limitano, in alcuni casi ampiamente, la libertà individuale di ognuno di essi. Alcune di queste restrizioni non valgono però per gli Psi Cop, che, ad esempio, pare possano scansire liberamente i pensieri dei "normali".
- Viene nominata un'altra società, la Universal Terraform, specializzata nell'esplorazione di nuovi mondi per l'eventuale preparazione alla colonizzazione o allo sfruttamento delle risorse degli stessi.
- La procedura per l'esame di un nuovo pianeta prevede innanzitutto l'invio di una sonda senza equipaggio da una nave in orbita per le analisi standard. In seguito, se il pianeta è ritenuto interessante, una squadra viene inviata sulla superficie per esami più approfonditi. Infine, se la società che finanzia la missione ritiene che il pianeta sia ancora interessante, una sonda scientifica viene inviata sulla superficie per determinare se lo sfruttamento sia legale (se ci sono specie senzienti, il pianeta non può essere sfruttato).

- Jerry Doyle e Andrea Thompson si sono sposati nel periodo in cui è stato prodotto questo episodio. In seguito, i due hanno divorziato.
- Per Walter Koenig era stato originariamente previsto il ruolo di Knight Due in And the Sky Full of Stars, episodio girato prima di questo, ma andato in onda successivamente, ma a causa di un attacco di cuore che ha colpito l'attore, a Koenig è stato affidato il personaggio di Bester.
- Quando è stata girata la scena in cui Sinclair colpisce Bester, Michael O'Hare aveva paura di potere fare del male a Walter Koenig, oppure che lo stesso potesse farsene da solo, cadendo. Per questo motivo, O'Hare ha afferrato Koenig mentre questi cadeva, per assicurarsi che tutto andasse per il verso giusto.
- Una curiosa "cerimonia" in una delle pause pranzo, durante le riprese di questo episodio, raccontata da J. Michael Straczynski: "Funny incident today, though, also at lunch. Walter Koenig joined some of the cast members at their table for lunch, and as he came to the table, they all stood up at attention. When asked why, they explained that it's protocol for junior officers to stand when a senior officer comes to the table. It was kind of a nice moment".

I think this episode will wake up a lot of people who have never seen Walter as anything other than Chekov. [...] It's a funny thought, but knowing Walter as I do, I can say without fear of contradiction that he was not doing Shatner. Given the chance here to do something utterly outside ST, which was his hope, and our pleasure to provide, he wouldn't do this, and having spoken with him at some length about his character and his performance, know that he didn't do this. Agreed, too many people have seen him as just this one person; but there's a talented actor with a great range behind that character, able to do many other things.
