B5 114 - By Any Means Necessary

Un incidente nelle baie di attracco provoca la morte di un lavoratore e innalza la tensione tra il sindacato e Sinclair. Nel frattempo, Londo e G'Kar litigano per un importante simbolo religioso narn.

• I leader politici narn (come G'Kar) sembrano avere tra i propri doveri anche quello di guidare le pratiche religiose.
• Alla legge invocata da Orin Zento è stato dato il nome di Atto Rush con riferimento a Rush Limbaugh, un commentatore televisivo americano.
• Sinclair dimostra un grande rispetto per le credenze religiose altrui, trovando una soluzione al problema di G'Kar. Un aspetto del carattere del comandante che era già emerso in Believers.
• L'autrice della storia di questo episodio, Kathryn Drennan, è la moglie del creatore di Babylon 5, J. Michael Straczynski. Nessun nepotismo alla base della scelta: Straczynski ha voluto assicurarsi di non potere essere tacciato di favoritismi ingiustificati sottoponendo lo script della moglie a una serie di controlli più stringenti del solito, prima di approvarlo e passare alla fase di produzione.
• Molti dei lavoratori che si vedono nelle scene nelle baie di attracco non sono normali figuranti, ma parte dello staff produttivo di Babylon 5, come il regista dell'episodio, Jim Johnston (è l'uomo che grida "I say, we strike!"), o John C. Flinn III (responsabile della cinematografia per la serie, che rivedremo tra l'altro in numerosi altri ruoli minori).

• J. Michael Straczynski e il problema dello script scritto dalla moglie: "See, I have this real problem with nepotism. Specifically... I hate it. As a result, I make people I know work twice as hard. The closer the tie, the more the person has to work to prove him or herself. [...] At first I said simply no. Not because she wouldn't do a great script, but only because I don't like the look of nepotism; I hate it, and I hate the way this town operates on the principles of nepotism. The conditions were that she had to write the script completely on spec, no assignment; not a spec outline, which is shorter, but a spec script. It would then have to pass muster in-house; if even one person thought it wasn't up to snuff, it got deep sixed. And revisions would not be handled by me, for the most part. [...] No favoritism.
