B5 116 - Signs and Portents

Mentre i Raider si fanno sempre più intraprendenti nei loro attacchi alle navi di trasporto, uno strano individuo arriva sulla stazione e si reca in visita ai principali ambasciatori. Nel frattempo, Londo riesce ad entrare in possesso di un antico e importantissimo manufatto centauri, che però gli viene sottratto poco dopo.

BabylonTrama

• I Minbari hanno deciso di supportare Babylon 5 solo dopo avere avuto la certezza di potere scegliere il comandante della stazione. La scelta è caduta su Sinclair.
• Morden, un oscuro individuo che rivedremo in numerosi episodi futuri, arriva su Babylon 5 per la prima volta.

Domande senza risposta

• Chi è Morden? Per chi lavora?
• Chi sono i "soci" di Morden?
• Cosa sanno Kosh e Delenn sul conto di Morden?
• Come hanno fatto i soci di Morden a sapere dove stava andando la nave dei Raider per tenderle l'imboscata?
• La visione di Ladira si avvererà? E chi è a bordo dello shuttle che riesce a lasciare la stazione prima dell'esplosione?
• Il danno alla tuta relazionale di Kosh ha qualcosa a che vedere con l'incontro con Morden? E se fosse stato Morden, in che modo è riuscito a fare del male ad un Vorlon senza subire conseguenze, almeno apparentemente?
• Dopo aver riconsegnato l'Occhio a Londo, Morden scompare, ma poco dopo si sente la sua voce rispondere a Londo. Da dove proviene questa voce?

Note

• L'imperatore centauri non si fa vedere in pubblico da lungo tempo.
• La visione di Ladira preannuncia la distruzione di Babylon 5, anche se secondo la stessa Ladira non è detto che tale visione si avveri. È solo un possibile futuro.
• Il triangolo che compare sulla fronte di Delenn durante la visita di Morden era presente anche durante l'interrogatorio di Sinclair alla Battaglia della Linea (And the Sky Full of Stars).
• Quando Kosh vede per la prima volta Morden, riconosce immediatamente chi sia davvero. Inoltre, in una delle scene iniziali, Morden si nasconde da Kosh, appena tornato sulla stazione. Questo fa pensare che i Vorlon conoscano molto bene Morden e i suoi soci.
• Nella scena con Londo e G'Kar che aspettano il transport tube, un Umano è in mezzo ai due ambasciatori. La scelta non è casuale, ma espressamente voluta dalla produzione.
• Secondo J. Michael Straczynski, la frase di Kosh a Morden "They are not for you" è riferita agli Umani.
• Il nome del capo dei Raider su Babylon 5 è Six, un altro omaggio alla serie The Prisoner (Mind War).

Zocalo

• Ivanova non riesce a dormire a causa del problema con i Raider. La mancanza di sonno è uno degli aspetti ricorrenti della serie, forse una piccola vendetta personale di J. Michael Straczynski, che con tutti gli impegni per la supervisione della produzione e per la creazione degli script dei vari episodi, durante il periodo in cui Babylon 5 è stata in lavorazione ha dormito davvero poco.
• J. Michael Straczynski riguardo a Morden e Kosh: "Morden tried to find out what the ambassadors would like. Morden arranged to rescue an important Centauri artifact. Morden helped wipe out the crooks. Morden saved Londo's career, and asked for nothing in return. And yet we get the sense that Morden is a bad guy. Kosh destroys our chance for immortality. Refuses to get involved in the affairs of others. Is plainly studying us. Terrorizes one of our main characters, Talia, for unknown reasons. And yet we get the sense that Kosh is a good guy. If anyone should ask, I really love writing this show".
• Ancora J. Michael Straczynski, sulla frase di Morden: "Actually, the origin of 'What do you want?' comes from encounter groups I've run, and from other kinds of group psychotherapy, such as the original Synanon games; you ask, 'Who are you?' over and over, refusing to take the same answer twice, to peel away the fabric of what the person is. It's a slight jump to 'What do you want?' (I knew that degree in Psychology would come in handy one of these days)".

Blooper

• Quando Sinclair e Garibaldi escono dalla toilette, si vede entrare una persona di spalle che sembra proprio una donna. Eppure si nota chiaramente l'insegna della toilette per uomini.
• Nella scena iniziale, il computer afferma che la data è mercoledì 3 agosto 2258, che però cadrà di martedì. Probabilmente si è trattato di un errato calcolo degli anni bisestili.
