Bester torna su Babylon 5 con una offerta per Sheridan. G'Kar continua ad insistere di volere entrare nella Cospirazione della Luce di Sheridan e Delenn.

- Dopo la brusca interruzione delle trasmissioni vista in Severed Dreams, ISN torna a trasmettere, anche se appare subito evidente come il controllo degli uomini del Presidente Clark sul network sia totale.
- Bester torna sulla stazione, offrendo a Sheridan un accordo: aiutarlo a recuperare una nave che trasporta componenti per le Ombre in cambio di un metodo per contrastare con successo le stesse Ombre.
- La nave di cui si preoccupa Bester trasporta in realtà dei telepati umani in sospensione criogenica ai quali sono stati impiantati degli strani congegni dalle Ombre. Portati sulla stazione, Franklin risveglia una donna, che subito si aggancia alla rete informatica del MedLab, cercando di prenderne il controllo.
- Le Ombre sono infiltrate nel Corpo Psi, oltre che nelle alte sfere dell'Alleanza Terrestre.
- La telepate risvegliata dal dottor Franklin è in realtà l'unico vero amore della vita di Bester, che aspetta un figlio da lei.
- I telepati "modificati" sono stati preparati dalle Ombre per divenire l'unità di controllo centrale di alcune delle loro navi.
- Delenn chiede perdono a G'Kar per non essere intervenuta a suo tempo ben sapendo che i timori del ritorno di una potente specie del passato espressi da G'Kar erano reali, oltre che per avere in seguito lasciato che il suo pianeta venisse conquistato dai Centauri senza intervenire, in modo da evitare che le Ombre sapessero che i Minbari e i Vorlon si stavano preparando per contrastarle. G'Kar non riesce a perdonare l'ambasciatrice, pur riconoscendo che la scelta è stata giusta, ma è contento di sapere che Delenn e Sheridan hanno acconsentito a farlo partecipare alla Cospirazione della Luce.
- In questo episodio si vede per la prima volta la nuova "Sala della Guerra", il centro di controllo specificamente approntato per coordinare le attività nel prossimo conflitto contro le Ombre.
- Leggendo il libro di G'Quan, Garibaldi intuisce il motivo della totale mancanza di telepati tra i Narn: sono stati tutti uccisi dalle Ombre durante l'occupazione del pianeta avvenuta un millennio prima degli avvenimenti di questo episodio, poiché costituivano un pericolo per loro.
- Un telepate può infatti disturbare le comunicazioni tra una nave delle Ombre e il suo "pilota", costituendo quindi una possibile arma per Sheridan e l'alleanza che si sta preparando a combattere le Ombre.
- Ora che la sua amata si trova su Babylon 5, Bester annuncia che supporterà Sheridan nel conflitto contro le Ombre.
- Le Ombre, per la prima volta, attaccano apertamente una specie nemica, i Brakiri.
Domande senza risposta
- Come ha fatto Bester a venire a conoscenza delle Ombre e del metodo per contrastarle?
- Che ne sarà dei telepati in sospensione criogenica? Resteranno su Babylon 5?
- Chi sono gli alieni che pilotano la nave catturata dalla White Star e che vediamo nel flashback di Carolyn?
- Bester conosce altri segreti riguardo alle Ombre?
- Ogni telepate può costituire un pericolo per le Ombre, oppure solo quelli maggiormente dotati? Anche una telepate latente come Ivanova può essere sufficiente per confondere una nave delle Ombre? È per questa ragione che la nave in Matters of Honor non riesce a colpire la White Star, perché a bordo c'era Ivanova?

- Le capacità di un telepate aumentano quando si trova nell'iperspazio.
- Nella sequenza d'apertura Sheridan sta sperimentando uno dei nuovi Starfury di classe Thunderbolt, una delle navi "ereditate" dalla EAS Churchill in Severed Dreams.
- Nuova "linea editoriale" e nuova presentatrice per ISN: molto più mielosa, più adatta al nuovo corso del network.
- Un telepate, o quanto meno uno Psi Cop, può rintracciare una nave basandosi sugli schemi mentali del suo occupante. Il Corpo Psi ha mantenuto segreta questa capacità, per evitare che la Forza Terrestre utilizzasse dei telepati in prima linea.
- Le pur ridotte capacità telepatiche di Ivanova, rivelate in Divided Loyalties, ora entrano in gioco. È presumibile pensare che Sheridan non provi particolare piacere nel chiederle di sostituirlo nel colloquio con Bester, ma non ha altra scelta. Dal telepate deve recarsi un membro dello staff di comando, altrimenti questi non parlerebbe, e Sheridan non può andarci di persona perché non avrebbe modo di sapere se la sua mente viene scandita. Questa cosa comunque rende per certi versi più umano e meno eroico il personaggio di Sheridan, al quale non è ignota la pratica di mettere in potenziale pericolo qualcuno a sé caro, o infrangere le regole (legalmente o moralmente) se il fine giustifica i mezzi. Pur con dei sensi di colpa, lo fa.
- I telepati del Corpo Psi sono addestrati a pilotare tutte le ultime navi dell'Alleanza Terrestre, e posseggono una propria squadriglia di caccia, la Black Omega, identificabile dalla grande lettera omega presente sullo scafo delle navi.
- Bester dice ad Ivanova: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". In ogni caso, Bester è sempre un nemico e nessuno se lo dimentica, come la stessa Ivanova ricorda a Sheridan nel finale dell'episodio.
- Il pilota della nave cargo era della stessa specie aliena di cui fanno parte i chirurghi visti da Carolyn nel suo incubo.
- In Dust to Dust, Bester rivela a Garibaldi: "There's danger all around us, and whether you like it or not, we may be all that stands between you and the abyss". In questo episodio si viene a sapere che i telepati sono una potente arma contro le Ombre.
- Bester cita passi da The Cask of Amontillado (Il barile di Amontillado) di Edgar Allan Poe.
- Il nuovo set della Sala della Guerra è stato dislocato nell'area C dello stabilimento di produzione in cui è stata girata la serie. In quell'area era presente il set del casinò, che però non era più previsto in episodi successivi. La sua sceneggiatura è stata quindi distrutta.
- Il libro di G'Quan è stato creato da Mark Walters nel dipartimento trucco e maschere.
- Alcune battute di Garibaldi nella scena della Sala della Guerra sono state ridoppiate per via di un rumore estraneo proveniente dalla sua sedia, e anche perché Jerry Doyle si era allontanato troppo dal microfono.
Zocalo
- Walter Koenig ha apprezzato moltissimo questo episodio, cosa comprensibile dato che viene data molta più profondità al personaggio di Bester. La rivelazione della storia tra Bester e Carolyn ha posto un problema non da poco a Koenig, che si è trovato a conciliare questo nuovo fatto con la figura fino a quel momento mantenuta da Bester, ossia quella di un personaggio appena capace di sentimenti positivi. Ha commentato così: "I had to re-evaluate who the character was. What made it possible for me to play with what I hope was honesty was that I concluded that there isn't anybody who hasn't some compassion or sensitivity in them, even if it has been repressed or destroyed or blunted or very controlled".
- La scena in cui Delenn rivela a G'Kar che i Minbari erano a conoscenza dei piani delle Ombre prima dell'attacco a Narn ha imposto uno sforzo emotivo non indifferente ad Andreas Katsulas: "I'll tell you the truth. I felt so strongly about that scene I was in tears from the beginning of that day, every time we did it, and the tears weren't reserved for the end of the scene". Mira Furlan ha ammesso di non essere preparata alla qualità ed intensità delle emozioni portate da Katsulas nella scena; alla fine però è riuscita ad adeguarsi, e come risultato le sue lacrime alla fine della scena sono sgorgate spontaneamente. Andreas commenta cosi': "Finally, after four hours of gut-wrenching feeling from me, the director said 'well we should have one where you're not all that emotional' and that's the one they kept, where they just allowed a little emotion at the end. They had take after take of raw feeling, but they wanted the tear from her, they didn't want it from G'Kar". La carica emotiva di questa scena è dichiaramente merito degli attori perché J. Michael Straczynski non ha dato loro alcuna particolare istruzione al riguardo.
- Mira Furlan ha detto di ammirare profondamente Andreas Katsulas: "He inspires me, he also intimidates me by the quality of his work. But here we really clicked, I think. There was something going on completely different to what we were planning".
- Ora che G'Kar conosce la verità, gli viene concesso di accedere alla Sala della Guerra. È quindi la prima volta che questo nuovo set viene rivelato, sia a G'Kar che agli spettatori. Il regista Michael Laurence Vejar ha voluto dare all'audience l'impressione di vedere attraverso gli occhi di G'Kar e vivere la sua stessa esperienza. La scena è stata girata con una steadicam che segue il Narn.
- Il libro di G'Quan che G'Kar ha dato a Garibaldi rivela un'arma che può essere usata contro le Ombre, i telepati. J. Michael Straczynski ha detto: "That's why I had telepaths in there in the first place. The whole theory is that telepaths, as somebody even points out, came out a hundred years before - give or take - and that was due to Vorlon interference. So the logical question is why were they created and why were they corrupted. That premise goes back to the pilot that's why I had them there. If they weren't going to be used in the Shadow War they wouldn't be in the story at all". Straczynski si riferisce alla scena in The Gathering in cui G'Kar chiede a Lyta di aiutarlo ad ottenere dei telepati, cosa che secondo il suo governo sarebbe urgente.
- Secondo J. Michael Straczynski, la Sala della Guerra è stata costruita con componenti già presenti sulla stazione ed alcuni finanziamenti addizionali da parte dei Minbari.
- J. Michael Straczynski ha rivelato di avere scritto la base per un racconto che comprende la storia completa della battaglia di G'Quan contro le Ombre, combattutasi mille anni prima degli eventi di questo episodio.

We could've confirmed your story. We chose to remain silent.
G'Kar: Who is "we"?
Delenn: The Grey Council. I was still a part of them at that time. Once the decision was made, I could not disobey.
G'Kar: So you stayed silent. And with the help of these... Shadows, the Centauri destroyed my world. Enslaved or killed millions of my people.
Delenn: G'Kar, if we had spoken out, if we had come public with what we knew, most of the other worlds would never have believed us. It would have changed nothing. Your world would still have fallen. With one critical difference. There are billions of Narns still surviving on your world. If we had exposed the Shadows, they could have struck openly before we had time to prepare, and none of your people would have survived. G'Kar, under the Centauri there is at least the hope of survival. With the Shadows, there is no hope at all. We had to choose between the death of millions and the death of billions, whole planets.
