Michael O'Hare è un attore principalmente dedito al teatro. Le sue apparizioni televisive all'infuori di Babylon 5 includono comunque alcuni telefilm abbastanza famosi, come T.J. Hooker, L.A. Law, Law & Order e la soap One Life To Live (Una vita da vivere).

Innumerevoli i ruoli teatrali interpretati, sia a Broadway, sia in produzioni Off-Broadway, sia in diversi teatri sparsi per gli Stati Uniti.

Michael O'Hare è stato il primo attore non di colore a vincere l'Audelco Award, premio assegnato dalla Comunità Teatrale Nera di New York per la sua interpretazione in Shades of Brown, uno spettacolo che trattava il problema dell'apartheid in Sud Africa.
