Crusade 106 - The Well of Forever

Galeon convince Gideon a portare l'Excalibur nel profondo dell'iperspazio, alla ricerca del mitico Well of Forever.

• Matheson è il primo telepate, dopo l'abolizione del Corpo Psi, a raggiungere gradi elevati all'interno della Forza Terrestre. Per questa ragione, rappresenta un modello per altri telepati che vogliono intraprendere la carriera militare.
• Il Corpo Psi è stato sciolto dal Senato terrestre e sostituito da una organizzazione chiamata "Ufficio per l'integrazione dei telepati" (Bureau of Telepath Integration), il quale (proprio come il Corpo a suo tempo) invia degli emissari (tutti chiamati Mister Jones) ad analizzare gli altri telepati per verificare che le regole sulla telepatia non vengano infrante. Queste nuove leggi sono ispirate all'integrazione delle persone con capacità telepatiche nella società civile terrestre.
• Galen ha avuto un grande amore in passato, Isabelle, anche lei una Tecnomaga. Quando questa è deceduta, Galen ha promesso di trovare il Well of Forever ad ogni costo e di portarvi le spoglie dell'amata.

• Nel finale, Gideon ha in mano una foto della EAS Cerberus. Questo, combinato a quanto Gideon stesso dice a Galen riguardo alla sua promessa di onorare la memoria di 300 persone, può far supporre che la EAS Cerberus sia andata distrutta, forse proprio nove anni prima di questo episodio, quando Gideon è stato salvato da Galen (War Zone).
• Le navi dei Tecnomaghi hanno sensori di navigazione più evoluti di quelli della Excalibur, tanto da permettere loro di navigare nell'iperspazio anche a distanza dalle boe segnalatrici.
• Ci sono delle creature senzienti che vivono nell'iperspazio, come i Fen che vediamo in questo episodio.
• L'elogio funebre di Galen ad Isabelle è una citazione da Cymbeline, di William Shakespeare.
• Galen fa anche un riferimento a Sonnets from the Portuguese, di Elizabeth Barrett Browning: "How do I love thee? • Proprio all'inizio della scena in cui Galen parla a Dureena delle risposte del Well of Forever, nel monitor dietro a Max Eilerson è possibile intravvedere per pochi istanti il famoso videogioco "Pong".
• Il commento di Gideon sul fatto che Galen consideri l'equipaggio della Excalibur come la propria famiglia può apparire alquanto strano, visto che nei precedenti episodi il Tecnomago non ha mai fatto allusioni a ciò. Il motivo di questa piccola incongruenza è da ricercarsi nelle modifiche fatte all'ordine di trasmissione degli episodi, rispetto a quello di produzione, che ha comportato alcune leggere "sviste" nella continuity narrativa, come questa.
• In lingua inglese, "fen" è raramente usato anche come plurale della parola "fan", nella sua accezione di "sostenitore, appassionato di qualcosa". Anche il commento di Galen sui Fen può essere visto come una spiritosa presa in giro dei fan, probabilmente anche di alcuni fan dei telefilm di fantascienza: "They're barely sentient. They're attracted to bright, shiny objects, but they lose interest quickly".
• Fiona Avery, oltre a scrivere questo episodio, si è occupata, fin dalla quinta stagione di Babylon 5 di coordinare le produzioni riguardo la serie (e gli spin-off) concesse in licenza a terzi, per evitare che vi fossero inclusi dettagli o notizie non in linea con quanto visto in televisione o nelle altre produzioni curate direttamente da J. Michael Straczynski.

• Riguardo al fatto che questo è il secondo episodio di seguito incentrato su Galen, J. Michael Straczynski ha affermato: "The original air order would have spread out the Galen episodes, so that he would appear every second or third episode... that changed with the short order, and they all got bunched together".
