10.000 anni prima degli eventi raccontati in questo Film TV, i Soul Hunter hanno racchiuso le anime degli abitanti di Ralga in una sfera, credendoli in procinto di morire. In realtà, si sbagliavano: solo il corpo degli abitanti di Ralga stava morendo, poiché si stavano evolvendo in esseri di pura energia.
Solo i Minbari sono riusciti a fermare un tentativo dei Soul Hunter di impadronirsi di un'anima (Soul Hunter, Atonement).

I Soul Hunter non raccolgono le anime di membri della loro specie al momento della morte, poiché non si ritengono degni di conservazione.
I Soul Hunter riuniscono le anime raccolte in immense gallerie, all'interno delle quali le stesse anime possono colloquiare tra loro.
Oltre al caso del pianeta Ralga, solo in altre due circostanze i Soul Hunter hanno effettuato raccolte di massa di anime. Un evento raro, in quanto, solitamente, si occupano di raccogliere anime di singoli individui che si distinguono per particolari capacità.
Le due storie principali che compongono la trama di questo Film TV hanno qualcosa in comune: sia il gestore dell'holobordello, sia i Soul Hunter, "catturano" caratteristiche di una persona senza permesso e utilizzano quanto raccolto per i propri interessi.
La storia di questo Film TV ricorda quella di Infection: in entrambi, uno scienziato finanziato da una società privata ritrova un manufatto, lo porta su Babylon 5 e lo attiva, generando pericolose conseguenze; nei due casi, il reperto è il prodotto di una specie tecnologicamente avanzata, che lo ha creato per sfruttarlo a proprio favore.
Secondo quanto afferma Lochley (e quanto visto nell'arco di tutta Babylon 5) la trascendenza dai corpi e l'approdo ad una forma composta da pura energia è l'ultimo gradino evolutivo per una specie (Mind War, Falling Toward Apotheosis, The Deconstruction of Falling Stars, tra le altre).
La speranza di vita di un Soul Hunter deve essere davvero elevata, se un individuo di 4.000 anni viene considerato ancora giovane.
Essendo raramente i benvenuti, i Soul Hunter hanno dotato le proprie navi della capacità di attaccarsi allo scafo di qualsiasi altro vascello o stazione e di aprirsi un varco verso l'interno.
Il Film TV si svolge nel 2263, circa sei mesi dopo gli avvenimenti raccontati in Objects at Rest.
Secondo quanto afferma Lochley, da quando Sheridan e Garibaldi hanno lasciato Babylon 5 (Objects in Motion, Objects at Rest), sembra che la vita sulla stazione sia tornata tranquilla.
Pur essendo da poco sposo, Garibaldi è tutt'altro che disinteressato alla vista dell'ologramma di Lochley. D'altronde, Lise è lontana anni luce...

Michael Straczynski riguardo alla mancanza di Sheridan e Delenn in questo Film TV: "Because we have only $3 million on which to make these movies, we have to rotate the cast because we can't afford to have them all in any one of them. Bruce and Mira were in the first two, so we gave Tracy a shot and put in Jerry as well as Corwin (his first), Zack and Franklin. We're just looking for ways to be fair to the maximum number of cast with the resources we have".
Martin Sheen doveva inizialmente avere il ruolo del Dottor Robert Bryson, ma ha ritenuto più interessante la figura del Soul Hunter ed è stato accontentato dalla produzione. Si tratta della prima volta, nella lunga carriera, che Sheen interpreta un alieno, con tanto di lunghe sedute giornaliere per installare la maschera da Soul Hunter.
