Nato a Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, il 20/09/1965.
Appassionato di surf ed arti marziali in gioventù, Robert Rusler ha iniziato la propria carriera come attore con una piccola parte nel film di John Hughes Weird Science del 1985, per poi interpretare diversi ruoli in altri lungometraggi, tra i quali Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (Nightmare 2: la vendetta di Freddy), Shag e Sometimes They Come Back (A volte ritornano). Quindi è stato scelto per Babylon 5.
Robert Rusler ha lavorato anche in altri telefilm, tra i quali Murder, She Wrote (La signora in giallo), Mike Hammer (Hammer) ed Star Trek: Enterprise.
